Looking back at 2024, being part of Ghost comics is a significant milestone for a creator like Lamont Magee. This is not just another media powerhouse; it’s a unique ‘creator-owned’ entity that stands out in the industry. As they say, “Welcome to the Ghost Machine.” Ghost comics? It’s a cooperative media group that puts out creative-owned goods, and we’re talking comics. However, it should be noted that many of the incoming talents, including Magee, are multi-hyphenates. Magee contributed to the comic “Hyde Street“ in Ghost M. #1, a 64-page one-shot showcasing a shared universe of exciting characters—the inaugural issue of a new series that arrived on January 23, 2024. Yes, four universes, independent yet with crossover characters who converge–when worlds collide. Enter the zone of “The Unnamed,” “Rook: Exodus,” “Family Odysseys,” and “Hyde Street.”
About Mr. Magee
Magee, one of the founding members of Ghost comics, is a seasoned writer and producer for TV. Already an arresting new voice in comics, Magee keeps the creativity coming with his latest artistic enterprise, Hyde Street, which dropped in 2024. When not working on comics, Magee has worked as a supervising producer on All American: Homecoming, consulting producer on HBO Max’s Green Lantern, the wordsmith and producer for CW’s Black Lightning, and behind the scenes on Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures. Animation? Magee co-developed LucasFilm Animation’s Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures. He also drafted the words for companies from Marvel to Disney Animation. He also co-authored Buffalo Flats, a film directed by Emma Westenberg.
The Dream Team
Back to the cooperative–the idea behind it is that the individuals who bring creativity, talent, and hustle benefit from their own work and their intellectual properties, such as the authors and visual creatives, including letterists and those talented individuals entrusted to color for a living, who’ve joined up with a brand that includes the following creative characters: Magee, Fabok, Meltzer, Hitch, Johns, Frank, Manapul, Tomasi, Zchut, Anderson, and Leigh.
Screen Rant intriguingly states that the “Hyde Street” artists are at “their most disturbing” in GM’s #1’s final chapter.” If that doesn’t inspire you to hustle down to ye-olde comic book sore and splash down, score a comic with a section that includes a splash page of old-school advertisements like X-ray specs; what will? However, these advertisements aren’t what they may first appear to be. Be scared by very scared. And Soulless, it seems, will be the next It Happened on Hyde Street one-shot, on the hungry heels of Devour, crafted by McGee, and be on your street–or Hyde Street #10–in 2025. For readers, in a comic that comes in at 64 pages, fans find themselves entering a world that ranges from the sci-fi to the comedic, the brave to the horrific, and noted that these tales”excellently showcase the fantastic line-up” of talent that created the comic, and Ghost “swings for the fences and sets out to be Image Comics’ best new comic venture in 2024.”
